Tree Trimming & Pruning That Keeps Trees Healthy

Every trim starts with a goal. Health pruning removes dead, diseased, or crossing limbs so the tree can put its energy into strong growth. Safety pruning takes out branches that overhang a roof, block a sightline, or could fail in a storm. Shape and clearance pruning keeps a tree in bounds without topping it — a practice we never use, because it damages the tree and creates weak regrowth.

Timing matters in our climate. Many Willamette Valley shade trees prune best in late fall through winter dormancy, while spring-flowering trees are better pruned right after they bloom. We prune to the branch collar, never leaving stubs, so wounds seal cleanly and the tree stays strong.

Trimming price comes down to the size of the tree and how much the canopy needs. A modest ornamental you can reach from the ground is quick; a mature Douglas fir or bigleaf maple that has to be climbed and pruned limb by limb is a bigger job. The amount of deadwood, the number of cuts, and how much clearance you want over a roof or driveway all add to the time.

Access and cleanup factor in as well. Tight backyards, steep ground, and branches over structures or wires call for careful rigging rather than simply dropping limbs. Every trim includes hauling away the brush we create, and we fold that into one estimate so there are no surprises.
